April 4-6, 2025
Gain an introduction to educational comics through discussion of examples, the basics of comics, and storyboarding processes. Practice strategies for visual organization and explore different methods. Have fun and walk out with a working non-digital sketch for your own comic.
- This workshop is free and open to Grinnell College students; no previous experience needed.
- Basic, non-digital, drawing materials will be provided.
- Registration is mandatory to reserve your spot.
- Capacity is limited to 15 people.
Participants must plan to attend all three sessions.

- April 5, Saturday, 1-4 pm
- April 6, Sunday, 1-4 pm
About the instructor. Julia Shangguan was a Biology and Studio Art major at Grinnell College, and she is a PhD candidate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics. Examples of her work: a 5-part series on cancer at the University of Chicago; a research showcase with the Field Museum of Chicago.
